Në këtë libër Kadareja flet shumë haptazi me Alda Bardhylin për marrëdhënien e tij komplekse dhe të rrezikshme me klanin Hoxha dhe sidomos me diktatorin Enver. Ai diskuton edhe mbi përpjekjet për t’u arratisur, mbi periudhën si deputet dhe shpresat e tij pas shembjes së regjimit komunist në vitin 1990.
