Ernest Hemingway

Ernest Hemingway (shqiptuar edhe Ernest Heminguej 1899-1961), është shkrimtar, gazetar dhe aventurier amerikan. Ai ka lindur në Oak Park, Ilinois dhe e ka nisur karrierën si gazetar në Qytetin Kansas në moshën shtatëmbëdhjetë vjeçare. Pasi Shtetet e Bashkuara hynë në Luftën e Parë Botërore, ai iu bashkua një skuadre vullnetarësh të ndihmës mjekësore në Ushtrinë Italiane. Ai shërbeu në front dhe u plagos. Ai u dekorua nga Qeveria e Italisë dhe kaloi shumë kohë në spitale. Pasi u kthye në Shtetet e Bashkuara, Hemingway u bë reporter për gazetat amerikane dhe kanadeze dhe u kthye shpejt në Europë për të raportuar mbi ngjarjet e mëdha të kohës.

Gjatë viteve 1920, Hemingway u bë shok me një grup amerikanësh që jetonin në Paris, të cilët i përshkroi në veprën e tij të parë të rëndësishme Dhe Dielli Lind (1926). Ai ishte po kaq i suksesshëm me romanin Lamtumirë Armë, (1929), përkthyer në shqip nga Vedat Kokona më 1961. Ky është një roman që flet për zhgënjimin nga lufta të një oficeri ambulance amerikane dhe mbi rolin e tij si dezertor.

Hemingway përdori eksperiencën e tij si reporter gjatë Luftës Civile në Spanjë si mjedis për romanin e tij më ambicioz, Për kë Bie Këmbana, publikuar më 1940 dhe sjellë në shqip nga Pavli Qesku. Mes veprave të tij të mëvona është edhe romani i shkurtër i jashtëzakonshëm Plaku dhe Deti (1952), historia e një peshkatari të moshuar dhe betejës së tij vetmitare me një peshk si dhe mbi fitoren dhe disfatën e tij.

Hemingway ishte vetë një sportist i madh dhe pëlqente të portretizonte ushtarët, gjuetarët, toreadorët, njerëz të fortë dhe me raste primitivë, të cilët kishin kurajë dhe ndershmëri përballë mjedisit brutal të shoqërisë moderne.

Proza e tij e drejtpërdrejtë dhe dialogu i kursyer janë veçanërisht efikase në tregimet e shkurtra, disa prej të cilave janë të përmbledhura në botimet Burra pa Gra. Hemingway vdiq në vitin 1961.
