About the author

Viktor Canosinaj is born in 1960 in Vlora city close to the Sazani island where his family lived at that time. His father was serving there from 1953 at a naval military base. In 1965 the author's family moved to Durrës the main port of Albania and the second biggest city where the author spent his childhood and part of his adulthood.

After universitary studies for Albanian language and literature in 1984 Viktor Canosinaj worked as a teacher in the grammar school of Shupenza, Dibra district until 1990 with a one year interruption period to follow post-universitary studies in literary critics. During 1990-2000 he worked as a journalist and news editor, most of the time at the Albanian News Service, a state-run agency.

Currently he is working at the Albanian Parliament as editor. Viktor Canosinaj started his literary activity in the '70 writing short stories and poetry. Hisfirst book for children was published in 1981. In 1984 was published a historical novel for children, followed in 1989 from the first novel for adults Four stars in the city, a book that won a national prize and sold in 8000 copies in a short time.

After the collapse of communist regime Viktor Canosinaj is back again in literary activity writing novels for children and young adults. He also published novels for adults. In a short period of time he published more than 15 books for children and young adults becoming an outstanding writer for the ages from 9-19.

He is nowadays one of the most popular writers in Albania.In 1996 he won the National Prize of the Ministry of Culture for his novel for children The son of the Wind. In 2002 won the same prize with the novel The monsters of the Mimosas Street. His novel Meriyll is included at the IBBY Honor List 2002.

In 2006 after a vast surve carried by UNICEF, MJAT Movement and Albanian Association of Publishers Viktor Canosinaj was declared the best writer for children and young adults. He continuous to keep this position and some of his novels run in the book market as bestsellers.

Viktor Canosinaj is also author of three books with tales and short stories and a study on children's literature entitled From Alice to Harry Potter. He has prepeared an abridged version for children and young adults of the famous novel Don Quixote.
